1st August, the young people from Jinan, visited Arundel Castle, the weather was poor but the young people really enjoyed the opportunity to visit a local place of interest with such a long history. During the visit the group discussed history and were all very knowledgable about British history especially the monarch.
‘Dracula’ english chosen name for Wang Lining is shown in the photo exploring Arundel Castle Keep.
The UK young people enjoyed explaining about life in Medieval Britian.
Several of the group were also fortunate to experience the royal tournaments that despite the heavy rain were exciting to watch.

On Thursday we took the Chinese Young People to Brighton, where they were able to have a visit at Brighton University and the Pavilion.
At the University we discussed with them about the educational oppertunities in England, as well as inquire what education is like in China. Though there are a few differences, the system is very similar. They all wished to gain a University education, while some even said that they then wished to study abroad afterwards. They are all bright and intelligent people that seem to know what career they wished to take when they are older. Some aspects of youth work was also explained to them; they seemed to be very interested in how youth workers became involved with young people and their behaviour at school.
We then travelled by coach to the Pavilion. While there, they also took a tour around the museum. After this, the Chinese young people were given free time to go shopping in Brighton.
After the free time, we all walked along the seafront towards the sealife center.
The Chinese young people seemed to really enjoy the sea life center; we got to watch the sharks being fed and the young people really enjoyed being able to walk through the glass tunell so that they could see the tank from underneath. Straight after we all walked along the pier to reach a fish and chips restaurant. They seemed to much prefer it to the Indian curry they had the night before.
Finally, it was time to head back to Worthing.
I’m glad that I was able to get involved with the Chinese young people’s return visit; after 9 months since visiting China, it’s allowed me to remember a lot of what I had seen and learnt when out there. I miss it a lot, and hope that I will be able to return soon. It’s also allowed me to look at England in a different way; as they ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ over what they see it’s let me be able to view it with fresh eyes again.

Following our successful exchange last October, 12 young people from Jinan have now arrived in West Sussex on 28th July 2009. The group will be learning about the differences and similarites in culture between China and the UK over the next 12 days.
Members of the original exchange group have planned an extensive programme of activities to demonstrate traditions, day to day life in West Sussex before the group travels to London for their final few days of their visit. The young people have thought carefully about the programme of activities, accommodation and food for the visit to provide the young people of the Shandong Youth Federation a memorable experience.
Members of the group will be commenting about their continued learning about our two nations along with sharing photos and insights from our Chinese partners. Maralyn

Hi, I’m Tom, I’m 17 and I live in Worthing, a medium sized town on the South Coast of England, in the county of West Sussex. I go to Worthing Sixth Form College, where I’m studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Politics A levels. I hope to do a degree in mathematics, starting next year. Out of college, I’m a member of Worthing Youth Council, where we discuss council decisions, as well as giving a voice for youth on local issues. I go to church each sunday, where I help with the young teenage group. I have a saturday job at a stationary shop, and like to see friends as much as possible.
When we go to China, I hope to experience what life’s really like in China, not what filters through, good or bad, from the media. It will be really interesting to experience a different culture and I hope will be an experience to remember.
